My Journey to Losing Weight

This is a new monthly series about the journey I took to lose weight and make myself feel better. A few years back I was looking at myself and was unhappy with my weight, my clothes were not fitting me anymore, but loathed the idea of going to a gym.  The price and just getting in front of others to workout, turned me off of gyms.  I am going to relieve the tools I used to lose the weight.  Now I love to play video games, so much that I have all three systems and even play video games on PCs as welll.  The reason I mention this, is that are turned to video games to start my road to losing weight.  My journey started 3 years ago when I bought the Wii fit.  Overall, Nintendo changed the way people play games with the introduction of the Wii video game system, for it allowed people to use motion to control games.  This idea is not something new, but Nintendo brought it to the system as a whole and not just one or two games.
Now you maybe asking why not just get a workout dvd.  The answer is simple with modern video game systems, game developers have created workout games that will actually give you instant data about your workouts.  From your weight, BMI (Body Mass Index), heart rate and most important of all they can even tell if you are doing to exercise right.  No workout dvd is ever give you all of that. The first game I tried was the Wii Fit made by Nintendo.  The game runs around $90 and come with the balance board and the game.  If you have a balance board already copies of the game are around $20.  The balance board is important piece of equipment to have, for not only does the Wii Fit use it but other games use it as well too.  The balance board is what is used along with the Wii control to determine if you do the exercise right and it can tell you your center of balance and weight, which I liked this idea in the game.
Wii Fit comes with a good amount of activities as they call them to get you in shape.  They mainly focus on yoga and strength training with only a couple cardio like step aerobics and jogging in place.  They even put a twist into working out and made some it fun by turning some of the activities into games like table tilt, skiing, tight rope walking.  The game is basic in execution and show when you workout for your heart does not have time to race, for they do not allow you to string workout together.
After hearing from the public, Nintendo release a second tile calle Wii Fit Plus that improved over the original.  They added many needed features the first game was lacking like customized workouts, and calorie counter.  I do like the customized workouts for this version for you can say I want to work on your tummy, or if you are an over eater they will create workout to combat that.  They even added 15 new activities and more games too like biking(which is more jogging in place) , a Super Mario like obstacle course, marching band and more.   If you are looking to start using video games as a medium to lose weight I suggest getting the Wii Fit Plus for it is a much better workout experience over the original.  In conclusion I use this game mostly for the Yoga, running, or just to get me back into exercising after an extended break.
